Parking App with LPR system

Modify China Bloom Creation (CBC) existing carparks system into offering effortless parking experience using License Plate Reader (LPR) and mobile app implementation.

Goals & Requirements

We’re upgrading CBC’s existing car park system on two parking buildings by integrating a fixed License Plate Reader (LPR) system with a mobile app for booking access.

CBC goals are to provide an effortless parking experience, minimize customer service, increase new sales and loyalty for Hong Kong drivers. In addition, the app should include:

  • Multiple fare options (e.g. hourly, day park, night park, weekdays, weekend, public holiday, monthly.)

  • Live update on availability parking spots suitable for different car types including electric car.

  • Secure online payment, such as FPS, credit cards,

  • Customers need to clear unsettled payment before exit the parking lot.

  • 10% of total customers used the new system once it is officially complete.

  • Flexible for expansion in location of parking buildings

I began by researching how the existing car park with LPR system will work and also asking 4 drivers on what their consideration when searching for parking spaces.

What information does fix LPR system capture?

  • License plate number (high accuracy)

  • Text & image file

  • Geography location

  • Date & time

What’s important when searching for parking spaces?

4 drivers said parking fare, spots availability and close distance to their destination as their main consideration.
Space dimension, disabled spot are additional points.

Pain points when searching for parking space

  • Time consumed in finding the space inside the building.

  • Forgetting the space where the car is parked

  • Space too tight for SUV car types

  • Disappoint with their space far to elevator/stairs.

What I learn through the project

System Flow

I continued with creating the new system flow. Listing the features on each step of the flow, helps to figure out the information in each feature and deciding which session can be designed more efficient.
